For those of us who grew up in the late 80’s and early 90’s you may have fond memories of the Japanese game show Takeshi’s Castle. It became a smash hit in Australia and abroad for it’s incredibly bizarre and interesting challenges.
Watching Takeshi’s Castle on late night Australian TV as a kid is one of the first things I remember about Japanese culture and I have been hooked ever since. Many dream to be astronauts, firefighters or policemen – my dream was to be a contestant on this amazing show.
For the first time ever I can live out my dream playing Nippon Marathon which is essentially a Japanese game show game. It includes a huge number of ridiculous obstacles, crazy costumes, funny commentary and perfectly captures the Takeshi’s Castle in a game. Even the technical bugs and glitches somehow make the experience feel even more authentic.
The game is designed to be played by up to 4 players but you can also play single player. There is also and additional game mode where you take turns with another player to see who can make it the furthest distance on insane obstacle courses.
The game is avaiable in early access on Steam now and you can check it out here.
